Hi friends welcome to “My Notebook” . I am going to discuss with you how to prepare for exams like Kerala PSC without external coaching. or How to crack the exam by self coaching.
Every aspirants may not be able to devote full time for preparation . Some of them may be working, some of them maybe engaged in something else and cannot go for coaching.
How to prepare secretariat assistant exam or company board Corporation exam external coaching. How to do self study at home to crack the government job kerala PSC or any other competitive exams. I will explain an effective method here.
First of all before starting the preparation you should calculate how much time is available to study. You should consider your daily routine and job timings to find the available time. You may be wasting that time otherwise but you need to prepare at that time and make fruitful and efficiently use that time.
Getting the available time you should prepare a timetable your convenience and try to stick to the time table. Make the time table follow not for the sake of making it.
First of all before starting the preparation you should calculate how much time get to study. You should consider your daily routine and job timings to find the available time. you may be wasting that time but you need to prepare at that time and make fruitful and efficiently use that time. In the available time you should prepare a timetable your convenience and try to stick to the time table. Make the time table follow not just make it.
The things that needed to be at hand before preparation are:
- Syllabus
- Previous question papers
- Rank file
- Note book
First thing to do when you start preparation is to get the syllabus for the exam for which you are preparing. Take one or two print outs of the same, read it thoroughly and understand the syllabus well. You need to get a clear idea about each topics and subtopics. You should cover the syllabus completely before the exam. as you cover each topic strike out or underline the topic names in the syllabus. This will help in monitoring the progress of your preparation better , and helps you not to lag as you can see there are more to prepare.
You need to get the previous question papers. Now many Publishers are making solved previous question paper book let. Those contain the answers for the questions and the explanation with the related things.

3. Rank file:
The third you need to have is a rank file. Any good one based on degree level syllabus is sufficient.
you can buy from here
you can read the best books for degree level exams
4. Notebook:
Next you need to have a notebook. You can keep one big notebook or small notebooks for each subject.
The best Preparation strategy:
First you need to solve the previous question papers. Take one and try to solve it in 75 minutes as in the Kerala PSC exams. After the completion, you need to calculate how much marks you got. You need to find out how many answers you have got right and how many of them are wrong and how many are there that you have not attended at all.
Take a break and come after 10 minutes. You need to analyse your answers for each topic. For example, get an idea of out of how many questions how many answers are right in each session.
Now you will get an idea of your strength and weakness in the subjects. On Which subject you are good at, and in the subject which topics and subtopics you are good at, and also in which you are not good at.
After completing the analysis, you need to study all the answers for the questions in the previous question paper. When you study one question get the answer for that and the related things may be given in that book. You need to take your rank file. And take the topic in the question and study about the other things related to that topic. Do this for every question . Thus you will cover many important areas in the rank file.
When we prepare based on the previous question papers usually we study the answers only, but the same may not be repeated always but other questions from the same area can be asked.so this method is very efficient.
So you have covered some of the topics in the rank file based on the question paper . Otherwise, If you start from the page 1 of your rankfile, you there is very good probability that you may find it difficult to cover the complete book. You may be feeling a fear of how to complete a book of 700 pages or more. So my friends, by solving analyzing and studying a previous question paper in the said method everyday will automatically cover most of the topics in the rank file.
So my dear Aspirants, solve at least one question paper every day along that clear your basics in is topics. You need to clear the basics as per the syllabus as well. After clearing the basics do practice more and more. Attempt as many as possible model questions.
4. Notebook:
You can get a big notebook for every topic or you can just get small small books for each subjects. I have tried both and find the latter ( each book for each topic) better. Otherwise you can write notes on A4 papers and file them. I prefer this method now.
when you make notes, make sure that you are not writing everything that is in the rank file. Make only short notes, in a way that is understandable to you. make it concise as much as possible. Make the notes attractive, presentable and more easy to memorize by making mind maps or bullet notes . I will explain in about making attractive and efficient notes in another post. I have posted some of such hand written notes in this site. Hope you find it here. also.
